Close to summer, we realize that Paris is a city full of greenery. As well as the contemporary landscaping that has been popular in recent years, there is also many notable parks and secret gardens. The pleasing result is an endless discovery of delights for the inhabitants and visitors.
París es verde, very green. The Tullerías, the Plantes, Luxemburgo, Palais-Royal and Invalidesparks are run by the state. While the City Hall is responsible for the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes - which cover between them some 1,900 hectares - as well as the 413 parks, gardens and walkways, of which more than 150 have been created since 1977.

All of them are charming places inviting you to discover their treasures. There are a great many places to choose from such as the beehives and the two hundred varieties of pear trees in the Luxembourg park, the animal cage and the 16th century maze in the botanical gardens (Plantes garden, in district 5), the sculptures in the garden of the Rodin museum, the tennis courts in the Atlantic park located behind the Montparnasse station, the collection of antique roses and peonies in the Bagatelle gardens, the camellias and lilies in the Floral park or the orchids in the Auteuil greenhouses (in district 16).
We cannot forget the romantic, plant covered tombstones in the Père-Lachaise cemetery,the eighty species of aromatic plants at the Georges Brassens park, the vines on the hill in Montmartre, the oldest tree in the city, planted in 1610 in the small gardens of René-Viviani, the vegetable theatre in the Shakespeare garden in the centre of the Catelan meadow, the vegetable patch in the Bercy park and the submarine in the La Villette park.
